PITTSFIELD, MA --- Just one series after sweeping the New Jersey Jackals the Tornadoes suffered their second four game series sweep of the season, this time against the first place Pittsfield Colonials. The Western Mass squad knocked ten base hits en route to the 7-1 win.
Worcester lefty Zach Zuercher (0-2) ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth after three scoreless innings beginning with the two run homer from Jason Taylor. Taylor completed a fantastic four game affair with two round trippers and eight RBI's. Wes Fink rounded off the scoring with a line drive triple that was mis-played by Ryan Crespi in left for a triple that plated a pair a runs in the next inning.
Miguel Flores (4-3) jumped above .500 with the six shutout innings Sunday afternoon scattering six hits. Omar Pena was the only member of the orange and black to notch a multi hit game. The shortstop was 3-4 with three singles and continued to be the best hitter against Pittsfield, improving on his .414 average against coming into the tilt. Both managers emptied their pens using a total of nine pitchers on the day. Pittsfield turned four double plays to Worcester's one; Danny Santiesteban's rare unassisted play from the center field position.
Both center fielder's left the game prematurely due to apparent injury. Santiesteban after slipping on the rain soaked grass in center then going in hard in an attempt to break up a twin killing while Quentin Davis exited presumably after crashing into the wall. Rafael Cabreja replaced him and promptly doubled on the first pitch he saw.
Worcester heads back to Augusta, NJ to take on the Skyhawks Monday evening for three. First pitch is 7:05pm with coverage at 7pm on WCRN.
